Culture Bites from Israel

Fancy diving deeper into Israeli culture to find out more about the country’s food, music, literature and sense of humor? This autumn, Budapest will see the grand opening of Europe’s first Israeli Cultural Institute (ICI).

Founded last year, the organization will start renovating its building set to be ready for their visitors just as the leaves start to fall. However, before all the hammering and drilling starts, head there between February 21 and 28 for a little fest to whet your appetites. Think music, theater and literature, gastronomy (wine tasting and kosher cooking sessions) as well as film screenings and photo exhibitions, all á la Israel.

Picks from the schedule:

February 21-23 – Film Screenings

February 24 – Gólem Theater Company: Trick (based on Etgar Keret’s short stories)

February 25 – Zvi Gitelman (CEU Jewish Studies’ guest professor): ‘Democracy and Jews in Israel’ – English language lecture

Throughout the whole week – Ritter Doron photo exhibition (and four other ones)

Kids’ Corner: Make your kippah, board games and crafts with Dead Sea salt
